Ice climbing

Champéry

Ice climbing is a challenging sport that is at it's best when winter is at its coldest. Equipped with ice axes and crampons, climbers ascend frozen rivers or steep projections created by frozen waterfalls.

The multitude of textures, shapes and terrains created by frozen water in all its forms is an endless source of inspiration for the winter climber. The constant metamorphosis of the structures, the varying conditions of their strength and resistance offer a diversity of climbing conditions that are every bit as interesting and challenging as rock climbing. But the soaring verticality of ice, the myriad shades of blue and white, the play of light and shadow is like nothing else; a frozen waterfall is a magical universe unto itself.

Crampons, ice axes, ropes, ice screws; these are the surgeon's tools you'll need to survive in this sterile world. From the first timid blows of the axe to technical routes, the guides at Mountain Experience are here to help you every step of the way as you gain confidence and learn the techniques of this fascinating sport.
