Through this film, immerse yourself in the memories of Hortense, a native of Val-d’Illiez, and discover, through her story, a life of hard work, the mountains, and traditions that follow the rhythm of the seasons.

Following its general meeting, the Val-d’Illiez Heritage Foundation is pleased to present this film: A Century of Life in the Heart of Val-d’Illiez, an immersive look at the village of yesteryear presented by its director, Pierre-Marie Gabioud,

The eighth child of the Perrin family, Hortense grew up in Val-d’Illiez before marrying Joseph-Antoine Gex-Fabry in 1945. The couple had six children. Between tending livestock, haymaking, cheese-making, and the garden, the couple hardly had a moment’s rest. A life of hard work in the old-fashioned way, marked by the seasons of the valley. Widowed in 1995, Hortense remained at the heart of the village where she was born, staying true to her card games with friends right up until her 100th spring. The Foundation presents this film to preserve the memory of a life devoted to the mountains and the insights it offers into the village of yesteryear.
