Mizu no Kokoro (Japanese for ‘a mind as calm as water’) explores the cyanotypes by the Italian artist Annalisa Mercuri, created at dawn, on the boundary between land and water.
Artist Annalisa Mercuri invites us to slow down and adapt like water. It is this calm she seeks when she creates her cyanotypes at sunrise, in secluded places in direct contact with nature—a practice of connection and meditation through immersion. The works are a snapshot of the interaction between humans and water.
This series is part of “Waterscapes,” a project in which Mercuri uses cyanotype to reveal how each water source—river, sea, or wetland reacts differently with the photosensitive paper depending on its composition, currents, temperature, and the light at that moment, creating a unique chemical image of the specific time and place.
