As rugged and challenging, and austerely beautiful as the untamed alpine landscape, this is our region’s 'other' iconic long-distance tour.
This multi-day tour is not for the faint-of-heart. Hikers should be surefooted and have a good notion of alpine hiking. Certain passages are equipped with chains and even ladders when the terrain is particularly tricky, and snow patches persist into late summer. It’s well worth the effort though, as the panoramas are otherworldly. Alpine huts provide rest and refreshment and a welcome night’s sleep along the way. Contact the local mountain guiding company if you don’t feel confident setting out on your own.
