Inalpe at Vieux They

Morgins

Experience this traditional event in the heart of the magnificent Vallon de They!

The queens of the Hérens breed return to their summer retreat. Starting in the morning, you’ll have the opportunity to admire some top-notch fighting between these impressive cows. Throughout the day, the public will also be able to soak up this very special atmosphere with folkloric musical entertainment and typical local dishes.

The inalpe

  • Also called poya in patois, the inalpe is the transhumance carried out by cattle and shepherds as they ascend to the mountain pastures at the start of the season. Usually taking place between the end of May and the beginning of June, the date is set according to the snowmelt and grass cover on the high-altitude pastures. The Valaisan inalpe, is known for its traditional queen fights that help organize the internal hierarchy of the herd.
