19. Morgins – Ü Yeü Tsalé

Morgins

This spectacular loop trail offers a superb view of the Dents du Midi and the Vaud Alps beyond.

Starting at the bottom station of the Morgins gondola, the trail passes next to the chalet called Kuhstall/Bois-Gentil. Just past the chalet, take the wide path on your left. Once you have passed under the gondola, you will see the first red snowshoe sign for Savolaire.

Further up, you will come to a crossroads, at which point you can choose the direction of the loop you wish to take :

– If you prefer to hike the steepest part uphill, turn right and head into the forest following the snowshoe signs for Morgins-Madzé. At the place called Madzé, turn left towards Madzé-Savolaire, which will take you to the Buvette de Savolaire (closed in winter).

From this point, make the round trip to the Ü Yeü Tsalé Restaurant by following the green signs marked Savolaire-Télésiège La Chaux. The restaurant is located at the bottom of the chairlift. From here, retrace your steps to Savolaire.
To return, descend to the right, following the red signs marked Savolaire-Morgins. From Champarin, follow the wide path to your starting point in Morgins.

– If you prefer to hike the steepest part going downhill, follow the snowshoe signs marked Morgins-Savolaire along the large path to the area called Champarin. As you leave the forest, spectacular views of the surrounding mountains will unfold before you. Head towards the Buvette de Savolaire (closed in winter).
From this point, make the round trip to the Ü Yeü Tsalé Restaurant by following the green signs marked Savolaire-Télésiège La Chaux. The restaurant is located at the bottom of the chairlift. From here, retrace your steps to Savolaire.
To return, follow the snowshoe signs marked Savolaire-Madzé in purple on the left by the edge of the forest. At Madzé, descend via the Madzé-Morgins path to your starting point.

Easy variant:
From the Ü Yeü Tsalé you may take the La Chaux chairlift (one way ticket sold directly at the chairlift). This will take you from the Ü Yeü Tsalé to the top of the Morgins gondola. From here, the Morgins gondola will whisk you back down to Morgins (one way ticket sold at the Morgins gondola).

Sporty variant:
Take the Foilleuse-Morgins snowshoe trail back to the village (+1h30).

Morgins’ snowshoe trails are marked with round signs in different colours, named by section according to the start and end of the trail segment. The snowshoe trails do NOT show the same numbers used on the Winter Sports Map.
