Rencontres Musicales Champéry | Jazz Evening

Champéry

Throughout the concerts, discover the different facets of Brahms: virtuoso pianist, but also chamber musician and orchestrator of genius.

Emotion to spare
Every year, the festival offers a jazz evening that opens the field of possibilities. Gathering beyond the musical chapels and live new experiences, here is something to celebrate all together…
Without a doubt, Thierry Lang and his musicians will know how to enthuse us and show us that there are a thousand ways to move us.
This is what the late musician and jazz composer Toots Thielmans promises us: “Thierry Lang’s music is between a smile and a tear”.

Thierry Lang
“From when can we say of an artist that he has built a work? From the moment when the depth and the coherence of the whole emerge. This is the case of jazz pianist Thierry Lang who has been exciting us for decades with his various projects, whether they are discographic or scenic.” Thierry Brand

Pianist with a solid classical training, Thierry Lang chose jazz to accompany his artistic life. His sound, his instrumental technique and his sense of harmonization have quickly made him a musician with a recognized signature in the world of jazz. His highly melodic compositions, which can be found in his personal discography of more than twenty-six albums, are regularly played around the world. He was the first Swiss musician to sign an artist contract with the famous American label Blue Note. Thierry Lang plays and records regularly with the finest musicians of today.

Claude Schneider
Guitarist Claude Schneider touches his first guitar at the age of 13 as a self-taught. Four years later he enters the Conservatory of his city first in classical guitar with Dominique Phillot then jazz guitar with Francis Coletta in 1985. He finished his musical studies at the Montreux Jazz School from 1986 to 1991. Very active on the jazz scene, Claude Schneider accompanies high-flying musicians such as David Linx, Thierry Lang, Matthieu Michel, Dudu Penz, Mauro Martins. He participates in the international projects CHalaCubana, Donaflor, Podjama and the Gnawas of Marrakech. In addition to his own quintet or trio formations, he can currently be heard in Thierry Lang’s Heritage Project, Volver and on the albums of all these musical projects. Claude Schneider composes and arranges for many of the ensembles in which he plays as well as for short film and theater commissions. He participates in numerous studio sessions. At ease with various acoustic and electric guitars, he also plays the ukulele and various plucked string instruments.

Matyas Szandai
A classically trained double bassist, Hungarian Matyas Szandai is also a formidable jazz accompanist. Gifted with a great rhythmic and melodic sense, he is at ease with both traditional and avant-garde music. Much in demand by today’s most prominent musicians, Matyas gives many concerts around the world. He currently lives in neighbouring France, on the shores of Lake Geneva, and collaborates on numerous Swiss projects.
