Octuors on stage

Quatuor Zaïde

The Zaïde Quartet, a rare all-female quartet, has established itself as one of the leading chamber music ensembles on the French and international music scene. Winners of numerous international competitions (ARD, Beijing International Music Competition, Charles Hennen , Banff, Bordeaux , Haydn…), the four musicians are regularly invited to perform in the most prestigious concert halls: London’s Wigmore Hall, the Berlin, Cologne and Paris Philharmonic Orchestras, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Stockholm’s Konserthuset, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Boston’s Jordan Hall, New York’s Merkin Hall, Hong Kong, Korea, Brazil… They receive invaluable advice from several masters, most notably Hatto Beyerle, Erbherard Feltz and Johannes Meissl in their early days, and later from Gábor Takács-Nagy, Gordan Nicoli? and Goran Gribajecvic.

After being entrusted with the artistic direction of the “Festival de Quatuor à cordes du Luberon” for 3 years, in the summer of 2021 they will create “ISQA”, the “International String Quartet Academy”, an essential meeting place for quartets, where international quartets of all generations can meet, exchange ideas and imagine new ways of approaching their discipline.

Over the years, the Zaïde Quartet has forged close ties of friendship and artistic collaboration with Francesca Verunelli, whose second string quartet it premiered. The quartet has also collaborated with composer Cécile Buchet on the Conte Musical for quartet and narrator “Grande Bouche aux milles notes” and the piece “Les quatre éléments”. Bryce Dessner, whose quartet “Impermanence” will premiere at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 2021, and Suzanne Giraud, whose quartet “Impulse” will premiere in 2022. The musicians also enjoy a special relationship with the NoMadMusic label and its artistic director Hannelore Guittet, who have been with them since their first recording project, and with whom they are signing their 7th album. The quartet makes it a point of honor not to limit themselves to a specific repertoire, convinced that the music of the past sheds light on the present, and that we cannot understand the music of the past without inhabiting that of the present. They play with prestigious partners, most recently with clarinettist Pierre Genisson, cellist Camille Thomas, pianists Martha Argerich and Lise de la Salle. They are currently touring with singer Théophile Alexandre in the show No(s) Dames, a disgusting tribute to opera heroines.

In recent years, the four artists have collaborated with such jazz greats as Marion Rampal, Michel Portal, Pierre-Francois Blanchard and Yaron Herman. While preserving and defending the notions of rhetoric, articulation and polarity in music handed down to them by the great quartet masters, the four musicians of the Zaïde Quartet offer interpretations inspired by “their imaginary laboratory”: the relationship between sound and the body, meditation, Qi Gong and benevolent communication. Since 2020, the Quatuor Zaide has been an “associate artist” of the Fondation Singer-Polignac. Charlotte Maclet plays a 1769 Milanese violin by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi on loan from the El Pasito association. Leslie Boulin Raulet plays a 1712 violin by Jacques Bocquet. Sarah Chenaf plays an anonymous 17th-century Italian harlequin viola. Juliette Salmona plays an 1876 cello by Claude-Augustin Miremont.

Quatuor Akilone
The Akilone Quartet is the fruit of a musical and human adventure born in 2011 in Paris. Elegant playing, a generous sound and a lively spirit drive this ensemble to bring poetry and depth to the works it tackles. Four people and four characters to form a single instrument with 16 strings… and 40 fingers!
Guided at ECMA by Hatto Beyerle, with whom they still exchange regularly, they have also grown up with eminent chamber musicians such as Vladimir Mendelssohn, Johannes Meissl and Mathieu Herzog, the Ebène quartet and Rosamunde. Sharing the stage with other musicians is essential for this young quartet, which has already had the chance to play alongside Tabea Zimmermann, Jérôme Pernoo, David Walter, Sharon Kam, Pavel Gililov and Jean François Heisser. Winner of the First Grand Prize and the Proquartet Prize at the 8th Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in 2016, the Akilone Quartet is touring Europe and has already performed in Japan. It is also a resident of Proquartet-CEMC, Génération Spedidam and a laureate of the Fondation Banque Populaire since 2017. The Quartet is part of the Le Dimore del Quartetto project and signs its first CD on the Mirare label in 2018. The film “A quatre ou rien” is directed by Chloé Perlemuter in 2019 around the quartet. In parallel with an international career and driven by the need to forge a complicit bond with listeners, the Akilone Quartet opens its “song” to all types of audience thanks to its collaboration with the associations Les Concerts de Poche and Musethica. Akilone sur un fil, a colorful performance that lets you keep your head in the clouds while keeping your feet on the ground…
