Sit back, enjoy the breathtaking views, put on your headphones... and relive one of the great tragedies in mountaineering history!

Relive this breathtaking tale as you (re)discover it by ear, supported by live percussion. In collaboration with the Théâtre du Crochetan in Monthey, this sound reading will enliven the alpine terraces of the Dents du Midi region this summer.

In 1956, two young amateur mountaineers, Jean Vincendon and François Henry, get lost in the Mont-Blanc massif, trapped by a storm and bitter cold. Trapped at an altitude of over 4,000 meters, they waited for help, which was slow in coming. From the Chamonix resort, in the middle of the Christmas season, we watch them helplessly through binoculars. And for the first time, a radio station – Europe 1 – allowed the whole of France to follow such a high-mountain tragedy live.

Between controversy, failed rescue attempts and outpourings of solidarity, an entire country held its breath. This tragic event was to become the starting point for professional mountain rescue as we know it today.
